Stephen Brown
Stephen Michael Brown, APR, Fellow PRSA has harbored a lifelong fascination with the movies and is a disciple of Pauline Kael and Roger Ebert’s populist approaches and Andrew Sarris “auteur” perspectives to film critique. As a movie critic and writer for Gannett News, Creative Loafing, Pre-Vue Magazine, Reeltime Networks, TheaterMania and other assorted outlets since he was 16 years old, often under the syndicated column “Lights… Camera… Reaction!,” Stephen has posted more than 1,000 of his capsule reviews for his Silver Screen Capture web site over the past decade. He has been interviewed and quoted by NPR, The Wall Street Journal, Newsday, Best Life, The Christian Science Monitor and PR Week for his perspectives on film. Even a recent edition of John Wayne: The Magazine includes his perspectives on The Duke’s “Movies with a Message.”
Stephen’s Silver Screen Capture site includes a sampling of critiques published between 1991 and today with updates weekly, plus stories on film festivals and timely industry news. By day, Stephen leads one of the nation’s top integrated marketing firms, Cookerly Public Relations, where his amazing colleagues embrace his moonlighting as a film critic. He is a graduate of University of South Carolina College of Information and Communications and the South Carolina Honors College and a graduate of Leadership Atlanta. He serves on the Boards of Directors for Ron Clark Academy and Aurora Theatre and is a past president of Actor’s Express, PRSA Georgia and Jerusalem House. He has also served on the Board for the Center for Puppetry Arts and the Advisory Board for the Alliance Theatre. He is a Fellow in the Public Relations Society of America, the gold standard of the PR industry with only around 700 elected members since its inception in 1989.
Stephen’s Silver Screen Capture site was recently featured on VoyageATL and Simply Buckhead. He develops his movie review content in the Town at Trilith, a creative community in Georgia which includes Trilith Studios, the second largest film production facility in the U.S. He is a proud member of NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists,. Everywhere Society for Influencers, the Atlanta Film Critics Circle and the Southeastern Film Critics Association.
